Top ten old school games - twenty years ago edition

First off let me say this is a top ten for Amiga old school games.
Maybe I'll do one for other gaming systems later on but for now I'll stick to what I know best.

10. Sabre Team

A turn-based action game where you manage a four men elite commando specialized in hostage rescue missions. From the get go you can tell it is a very difficult game. You have to select weapons and gear for each of the team member before sending them out with literally dozens of available options. If you like tactical action this might be a game for you.

Darkemere: Orcs, Magic swords and Power rings - Amiga

Darkmere is an adventure game set in a fantasy universe, with much reference to Tolkien's. You play Ebryn, son of Gildorn. Your father, too old himself to go on such an adventure, sends you to investigate the evil curse that is plaguing your land. The game introduction starts as Ebryn gets teleported in town, and while he slowly materializes, a mighty creepy description sets the atmosphere. Creatures are roaming the abandoned streets, and as the chilly wind bites at you, you can hear the screams of their victims in the distance.

Your journey starts at the city front gate and your first goal will be to find a way out, hoping to reach a wizard who will shed light on the evil mystery, the Darkmere curse.

Dune, a Desert Adventure Masterpiece - Amiga

There is no better game to start off this blog than Dune. Quite well known amongst the older gamers, it is often overlooked in favour of its sequel, Dune II: The Battle for Arrakis. The latter being considered as the father of all modern RTS games. As it was often the case back then, you cannot really put a single genre label on this game. Dune offers a rich gaming experience mixing adventure, strategy and exploration.

The action is staged on the desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, the only place in the universe where the “Spice” can be found. Spice is a key resource, as it allows interstellar travel. Various Houses struggle to gain control of the planet and its natural riches. In the game, you are Paul Atreides, heir of the House Atreides, a noble family from Caladan, the Water Planet. You're sent to Arrakis to face the Harkonnens, another Great House with rather questionable ethics. To gain control of the planet and fight off the Harkonnens, you'll need to befriend the Fremen, the indigenous people of Dune.
